By Markus Wangler, Napoleon Homestead, 28 pages, 2021, Softcover.
Markus Wangler, Napoleon, ND, compiler of this nicely done family publication writes, “This St. Clare’s history book is a compilation of a variety of articles and pictures which have been obtained over the years. By no means does this book include every event or milestone, but at the time this is the most accurate history.”
The book includes valuable information with many black and white and color photos of the History of St. Clare’s Church, Burnstad, ND. In 1912, there were 40 Catholic families in the Burnstad area, who built a frame church. In August, 1913, St. Clare’s Church was completed at Burnstad. The Mission Church of St. Clare’s had its first Mass on August 12, 1913. The church building in 1913, gave we to a new church which began in 1960 with completion in 1961.
In 2006, St. Clare’s Church at Burnstad was moved to Steele, ND and added to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
In his Closing Thoughts, Markus Wangler writes, “In concluding, this history with little to go one, except searching my mind of the 46 years that I was a parishioner there and to those who came forward and submitted what they had. To those I say thank you.”
