My Mother's Apron is a story about Dr. Keller's mother and the apron she wore daily on their early prairie farm in the 1920s and 1930s on the family's farm near Strasburg, ND. Keller creates a compelling image of his mother and her home made apron. Always present with everything his mother did, the apron was more than just a garment to be worn. It was an incredible tool used for a wide variety of tasks.
The hardcover, 56 page children's history picture book is 8x8 inches in full color. Artist illustrator, David Christy, paints 28 pictures of Keller's mother carrying what needed to be, in her apron, plus 23 anecdotal pictures throughout the book. Christy captures the facial expressions from actual archival photographs of her.
About the author:
Dr. Edward F. Keller was born in Strasburg, ND in 1927. He attended a one-room country school near his farm. In 1941, he left for Canton, OH, to attend Brunnerdale Seminary High School. Keller later served in the military as a dental technician, attended St. Thomas College, St. Paul, MN, and graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry, Milwaukee, WI. Dr. Keller is now retired after practicing dentistry in Dickinson, ND, for 42 years. He continues to reside in Dickinson with his wife, Shirley. They have seven grown children and sixteen grand children.
